MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University men's basketball team fell 81-70 to the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg battled hard against the No. 7-ranked Tommies, but couldn't keep pace from beyond the three-point arc, where the Tommies connected on 15-of-23, while Augsburg was only able to hit 6-of-26. Augsburg was able to outscore St. Thomas at the free-throw line, with the Auggies shooting 14-of-18, while the Tommies were only 6-of-7, but it wasn't enough to overcome the St. Thomas advantage from three-point range.
• Five Auggies finished in double figures, led by
Matt Carik (SR, Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) and
Will Schmidt (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace HS), who finished with 14 points apiece. The 14 points were an Auggie career-best for Schmidt, who was 5-for-9 from the field, while adding five rebounds. Carik added four assists and a game-high four steals.

Joe Palmer (SO, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) pulled down a team-best seven rebounds to go along with 12 points and a pair of assists.

Bradley Winter (SO, Winona, Minn./Winona HS) scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds, while
Jack Sorenson (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) added 10 points and four assists for the Auggies.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the field, while the Tommies connected on 53.6 percent (30-of-56) of their shot attempts. St. Thomas claimed a 31-27 advantage on the boards, while the Auggies outscored St. Thomas 32-24 in points in the paint.
FOR THE FOES
• St. Thomas was led by Riley Miller, who finished with a game-high 20 points.
• Anders Nelson added 18 points for the Tommies.

• Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (3/3) at 7 p.m., traveling to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Gustavus Adolphus College.
