Auggies cruise to victory in season opener

MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University men's basketball team opened its season with an 85-55 victory over Crown College in nonconference action on Tuesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg jumped out to a 23-6 lead and never looked back, leading for all but the opening 19 seconds of play.
• The Auggies shot 47.3 percent (35-of-74) from the floor, compared to 35.0 percent (21-of-60) for the Storm.
• Augsburg claimed a 49-33 advantage on the boards and an 18-7 advantage in second-chance points.
• Augsburg was led offensively by Matt Carik (SR, Rogers, Minn.), who finished with 18 points on a 6-of-10 shooting night. Carik added five assists and a pair of steals.
• Joe Palmer (SO, Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) posted the first double-double of his Auggie career, finishing with 11 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
• Jack Sorenson (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and James Streeter (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn/Totino Grace HS) finished with 13 points apiece for the Auggies. Sorenson added a career-best seven assists, while Streeter added six rebounds and a blocked shot.
• All 11 Auggies who dressed for the game saw action, and all 11 factored into the scoring.

FOR THE FOES
• Crown was led offensively by Micah Moan, who finished with 17 points, including a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range.
• Seth Royston pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for Storm, to go along with eight points.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is scheduled to return to action next Wednesday (2/17), traveling to Collegeville, Minn. to take on Saint John's University.
• Crown is scheduled to return to action on Thursday (2/11), traveling to New Ulm, Minn. to take on Martin Luther.
