Auggies post big win in season finale

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's basketball team posted a 59-51, season-ending victory over the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Claire Lynch Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• For the second consecutive game, the Auggies saved their best for last. Augsburg scored 22 points in the final quarter and ended the season on a high note with a big victory over the Bennies. The Augsburg defense picked up a season-high 18 steals and held the Bennies to a season-low 18.8 percent from 3-point range (3-of-16).
• Augsburg was led offensively by Kalena Myers (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS), who scored a career-high 18 points. Myers finished 5-for-8 from the field, picked a game-high five steals and dished out a pair of assists. 
• Jen Masello (JR, Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South HS)'pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and added 11 points, connecting on 5-of-7 from the field.
• Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Selena Lor (JR, Winona, Minn.), who finished with 11 points, on a 4-for-6 afternoon.
• Jaley Coplin (SO, Shakopee, Minn.) and Grace Eastman (SO, St. Francis) added six points apiece for the Auggies.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field, while the St. Benedict connected on 37.3 percent (19-of-51) of its shot attempts.
• The Bennies claimed a 42-26 advantage on the boards, but the Auggies won the turnover battle, forcing 24, while only committing 12. The Auggies turned their turnover advantage into a 23-12 advantage in points off-turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• St. Benedict was led by Maddie Schmitz, who posted a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double.
• Carla Meyer added 10 points for the Bennies.
