Augsburg volleyball defeats Bethel 3-1, Gustavus 3-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg University volleyball team defeated Bethel University 3-1 and Gustavus Adolphus College 3-0, both nonconference matches, at the Bethel Triangular on Saturday. 

THE BASICS - AUGSBURG VS. BETHEL
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Bethel 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-23)
LOCATION: Robertson Center, St. Paul, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 5-1 overall, Bethel 4-2 overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST BETHEL 
• After dropping the first set to Bethel, Augsburg found a rhythm and won the next three sets, securing the 3-1 victory. The Auggies out-hit the Royals .313 to .162, including .467 and .424 clips in the second and third sets respectively. Augsburg had nine service aces in the match. 
• Kayla Gjerde (JR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) earned her first kill-dig double-double of the year with a match-high 19 kills -- with a .486 attack percentage -- and 15 digs. Jade Boysen (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had 13 kills for the Auggies, adding five digs, two solo blocks and an assist. 
• Hitting at a .538 clip, with seven kills, was Corrina Evans (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS). Evans also had two aces, a block assist and an assist. 
• Izzy Barr (JR, River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) and Lexie Lang (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) both finished with 24 assists. Barr had five digs and two service aces, while Lang had six digs, three kills and two aces. 
• Maddie Nierengarten (SR, Foley, Minn./Princeton HS) finished with a match-best 20 digs, while adding nine kills, two block assists and an ace. Libero, Mikayla Coops (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) collected 10 digs, two aces and two assist. 
• Jade Fullerton (JR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Bri Van Well (FY, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) finished with five and four kills, respectively, for the Auggie offense. Fullerton added two block assists, while Van Well had one block assist and four digs. 

FOR THE FOES (BETHEL)
• Kristin Cotter led Bethel with 12 kills and added four blocks (one solo). 
• Hannah Wilhite finished with 28 assists, while Rylee Forshee had a team-high 14 digs.

FINAL SCORE: Augsburg def. Gustavus 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-18)
LOCATION: Robertson Center, St. Paul, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-1 overall, Gustavus 3-2 overall 

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GUSTAVUS 
• Augsburg made quick work of Gustavus, sweeping the Gusties in straight sets. The Auggies had a .255 attack percentage in the match, while holding the Gusties to a .045 clip. Augsburg recorded six team blocks to the Gusties one. 
• Pacing the Augsburg offense was Boysen, who claimed eight kills. Boysen added a block assist and an assist.
• Katie O'Rourke (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn./Irondale HS) and Evans both finished with seven kills for the Auggies. O'Rourke chipped in 10 digs, a block and an assist. Evans hit at a .462 clip and had a block assist.  
• Van Well earned five kills, while Nierengarten and Lang both had four kills. Nierengarten added 10 digs, two blocks and an assist. Lang had a match-best 20 assists, five digs and four service aces.
• Barr earned a dig-assist double-double with 11 digs and assist each, while adding three aces. Claiming the match-high 21 digs was Coops. Coops earned three assists as well. 
• Fullerton finished with four blocks and three kills. Gjerde pitched in two digs, a block and a kill. 

FOR THE FOES (GUSTAVUS)
• Kasie Tweet handled the setting duties for Gustavus and finished with 17 assists, while adding 10 digs. 
• Sarah Elliot, Courtney Peterson and Lauren Klaith all had six kills.

• Augsburg hosts St. Olaf for a MIAC match on Wednesday (5/5) at 7 p.m. at Si Melby Hall, in the last match of its abbreviated season.
