Auggie women draw with Blugolds in season-opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Behind a seven-save shutout by goalkeeper Iz Shuster (SO, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS), the Augsburg University women's soccer team opened its 2021 season with a 0-0, two-overtime tie with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a nonconference contest on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Making her fourth collegiate appearance in goal, Shuster claimed her first career shutout, stopping all seven shots on-frame that she faced, including several dramatic saves late in regulation and overtime.
• Augsburg's defensive backfield of Jen Masello (SR, Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South HS), Julia Scully (SO, Madison, Wis./Madison West HS), Molly Conners (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Tessa Ericksen (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) all had solid games to protect Shuster, each playing more than 90 minutes in the contest. Masello and Scully played the full 110 minutes.
• UW-Eau Claire controlled possession for a majority of the game, outshooting Augsburg by a 21-11 margin, including a 11-5 advantage in the second half and overtime. One of Augsburg's best chances came in the 69th minute, when a shot by Sam Donahugh (JR, Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago HS) slid just wide of the goal on a break.
• Jennifer Bobaric (JR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) had four shots in the game for the Auggies, incluidng two on-frame, while Megan Hensel (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) had two shots on-goal.

FOR THE FOES
• Elise Pinewski had six shots in 33 minutes off the bench to lead UW-Eau Claire, while Megan Hansen had four shots.
• Anna Sveiven had five saves in 45 minuts of play, while Kennedy Boll had one save in 65 minutes of relief.
