Auggie women's golf opens with milestone effort

RESULTS

SARTELL, Minn. -- Recording some of the best individual and team performances in program history, the Augsburg University women's golf team opened its 2021-22 season with a seventh-place finish at the College of Saint Benedict Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday at the Blackberry Ridge Golf Course.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg finished the two-day, 36-hole tournament with a 677 (343-334) total, the second-best 36-hole tournament score in the 25-season history of the program (1991-92, 1994-95 to present), behind a 656 (336-320) score by the Auggies in the Carleton Small College Desert Classic on March 21-22, 2005. Augsburg's second-round 334 is the second-best single-round score in program history, with the first-round 343 the fifth-best. Augsburg tied for seventh place in the 10-school, 12-team meet.
• Three Auggies finished in the top-23 in the 78-golfer field, led by Avery Sawchuk (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS), who made her collegiate golf debut after missing last season due to injury. She shot a 160 (81-79) total to tie for 11th place, tied for the second-best 36-hole score in school history. Marisa Navarro set the school record with a 159 (87-72) in the 2005 Carleton Small College Desert Classic. Sawchuk's second-round 79 is tied for the seventh-best single round in school history.
• Emma Kraft (SR, Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) set a new collegiate career-best effort with a 167 (86-81) total, tying for 19th place. Her 167 is tied for the 12th-best 36-hole effort in school history. Her second-round 81 and Sawchuk's first-round 81 are both now tied for the 15th-best single round in school history.
• Playing in her first college golf meet, Elizabeth Fagerlind (FY, Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) finished in a tie for 23rd place with a 168 (85-83) total, now tied for the 16th-best 36-hole effort in Augsburg history.
• Olivia Boe (JR, Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville HS) finished with a 185 (91-94) total, while two Auggies made their collegiate debuts -- Maren Aikens (FY, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) with a 187 (96-91) total and Daisy Vinkemeier (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) with a 220 (112-108) total.
