ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The Augsburg University volleyball team lost its second-straight match for the first time this season, falling in straight sets to the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg got off to a slow start in set one, trailing 13-7 near the midpoint. The Auggies rallied to erase the deficit and tie the set at 16, but the Bennies won nine of the final 11 points to take the set 25-18.
• After leading in set two at 7-5, Augsburg struggled to maintain momentum as Saint Benedict took 20 of the final 27 points to win the set overwhelmingly at 25-14.
• The Auggies trailed once again in the early portion of set three with Saint Benedict leading 17-10. Augsburg rallied to cut the deficit to just one point on three separate occasions, but ultimately failed to recapture the lead as the Bennies hung on for a 25-20 win to complete the sweep.

Kayla Gjerde (SR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) finished the match with eight kills and nine digs.
Angel Vo (SO, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) anchored the defense with 15 digs.

Brianna Van Well (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) and
Emily Kaup (SO, Omaha, Neb./Duchesne Academy HS) tied for second on the team with six kills each.
Mikayla Coops (Jr, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) tallied a team-high 25 assists and added eight digs on the day.
• It was another uncharacteristically poor day for the Auggie attack, hitting .083 with 28 kills and 18 errors on 120 attempts. The Bennies hit .218 with 41 kills and 17 errors on 110 attempts.
FOR THE FOES
• Gabby Heying and Emma Guest each notched double-doubled for the Bennies with 13 kills and 10 digs and 10 kills and 10 digs, respectively.

• Augsburg will return home to host a nonconference showdown against Northwestern-St. Paul on Tuesday (10/11) at 7 pm.
