Auggies stay unbeaten with win over Scots

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Augsburg University women's basketball team opened up Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and played its first road game of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking down Macalester College 49-39 at the Leonard Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 5-2 early in the first quarter, Augsburg went on a 16-7 scoring run to take an 18-12 lead into the quarter break. The Augsburg lead continued to grow steadily throughout the second quarter, culminating in a 14-point advantage at 32-18 at halftime.
• The third quarter was more of the same as the Auggies saw their lead grow to a game-high 21 points at 39-18 with 7:33 remaining on the clock. The Scots attempted to claw their way back into the game throughout the remainder of the second half, but it was all they could do to get the deficit to 10 as Augsburg walked away with the 49-39 win.
Jaley Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) was the offensive leader for Augsburg once again, finishing with 20 points on eight-of-18 shooting to go along with three rebounds. Anja Smith (JR, Kewaskum, Wis./Saint Mary's Springs HS) scored 11 points on five-of-14 from the floor and grabbed four rebounds.
Kalena Myers (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) logged a team-high eight rebounds and finished with five points while Grace Eastman (SR, Elk River, Minn./St. Francis HS) tallied six rebounds and four points.
• The Auggies held the lead for 36:49 in the contest, a staggering 92% of the game. Augsburg was also the better-shooting team, knocking down 20-61 (32.8%) shots from the floor compared to Macalester's 18-63 (28.6%).

FOR THE FOES
• Peyton Starks and Emma LaFrenz finished with 10 points each for the Scots, also logging double-doubles with 12 and 13 rebounds, respectively.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will continue their stretch of six-straight road games with a game against Bethel on Tuesday (11/22) at 7 pm.
