Auggies edged by Cobbers at home

MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University men's basketball team played its final home game of the 2022 calendar year on Wednesday evening, falling 84-76 to Concordia-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg came out stronger in the opening minutes, jumping out to an early 7-1 lead behind a three-pointer from Conner Knoepfle (SR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and one bucket each from Bradley Winter (SR, Winona, Minn./Winona HS) and Kayser Hasaan (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS). The Cobbers took their first lead at 10-9 with 15:15 to play and held a narrow advantage for the following 10 minutes.
• The Auggies managed to regain the lead at 26-25 with 4:12 remaining in the half, but the final four minutes contained five lead changes with the Cobbers taking a 40-38 lead into the locker room at the half.
• Concordia maintained a single-digit lead throughout most of the second half, with the Auggies cutting the deficit to just one point at 67-66 with 6:59 remaining. The Cobbers held the Auggies at arms-length in the following minutes, but the Auggies rallied once again to tie the game at 75 with 2:11 on the clock. Despite the late rally, the Cobbers finished the game on a 9-1 scoring run to claim the eight-point victory.
• Knoepfle was the leading scorer for Augsburg, tallying 19 points on 7-12 shooting with five rebounds and two steals. Will Blascziek (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) was just behind him with a career-high 17 points on 4-8 shooting. Winter and Hasaan each tied with 12 points with Winter adding five rebounds and Hasaan grabbing six.
Colin Meade (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and Isaac Rabaey (SO, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) rounded out the scoresheet with eight points each.
• The Auggies had their most efficient shooting night of the season so far, hitting 29 of their 55 shots (52.7%). The Cobbers were also efficient, knocking down 33 of 61 shots (54.1%).

FOR THE FOES
• Rowan Nelson led all scorers with 24 points while Mathew Johnson finished with 20 for the Cobbers.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will head to St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday (12/10) to face Gustavus Adolphus College at 1 pm.
