Auggie women fall in MIAC Quarterfinals

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Augsburg University women's hockey team's season came to an end on Saturday with a 6-3 loss at the College of St. Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Quarterfinal contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Scholastica scored twice in the opening 7:44 of play to take the lead, but Augsburg tied the game with a pair of second-period goals. The Saints took the lead just 16 seconds after the Auggies tied it, and scored three goals in the third period to clinch the playoff win.
• Augsburg scored two goals on special teams, with Katie Flynn (JR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) scoring a power-play goal from Jenna Gerold (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) at the 4:43 mark of the second period, and Kensie Malone (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Gentry Academy HS) scoring a shorthanded goal at the 16:42 mark.
• Lilia Scheid (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Middleton (Wis.) HS) scored from Brooke Leone (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) at the 4:39 mark of the third period.
• Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 43-33 margin. Abby Bollig (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) started but had just two saves in eight minutes, before being relieved by Chloe Stockinger (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids HS), who had 25 saves in 49 minutes.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The game was the final collegiate game for four Augsburg graduating seniors -- Bollig, Leone, Hannah Gold (SR, Mequon, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) and Lindsey Trotter (SR, Fargo, N.D./Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.) HS).

FOR THE FOES
• Taylor Thompson scored two goals for St. Scholastica, while Mariah Haedrich had a goal and two assists, and Rachel Anderson and Taylor Murray had a goal and assist each. Allie Bussey scored the other Saints goal.
• Lori Huseby had 40 saves in goal for St. Scholastica.
