MINNEAPOLIS -- The St. Olaf College men's hockey team built a 4-0 lead and claimed a 5-2 upset victory over top-seed Augsburg University in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship Game on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Olaf, the No. 7 seed in the all-comers MIAC postseason playoffs, beat the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 1 seeds in successive games to claim the MIAC playoff title and the conference's automatic berth in the 12-team NCAA Division III national tournament.
• The Oles built a 4-0 lead early in the third period, before Augsburg got on the board with a power-play goal at the 10:31 mark, as
Jarod Blackowiak (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) scored from
Fritz Belisle (JR, Red Wing, Minn./Roseville HS) and
Grant Reichenbacher (JR, Verona, Wis./Madison Edgewood HS).
• St. Olaf added an empty-net goal with 3:34 left to play, and Augsburg capped the scoring with a goal from
Austin Dollimer (SR, Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) with 47 seconds left, assisted by
Austin Martinsen (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS).
• St. Olaf held a 29-27 advantage in shots on-goal, including a 10-4 advantage in the first period and 12-8 advantage in the third period.

Jack Robbel (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) had 24 saves in goal for the Auggies.

• Augsburg will learn its NCAA Division III postseason fate on Monday (3/7) at 9 a.m. Central time, as the selections to the 12-team national tournament are announced on an
NCAA.com webcast. St. Olaf will be one of the eight teams receiving "Pool A" automatic bids to the national tournament, while Augsburg will aim for one of the four "Pool C" at-large bids. Augsburg has been ranked
No. 4 in the USCHO.com Division III national poll for most of the season, and dropped from the No. 2 spot to the No. 4 spot in the
Division III PairWise rankings on Saturday, which is the main determiner for national tournament bids.
• With one conference championship game remaining on Sunday, Augsburg is currently the highest-ranked "Pool C" team in the PairWise rankings, behind "Pool A" bids Adrian (Mich.), Utica (N.Y.) and Geneseo (N.Y.). St. Norbert, which lost 12-3 to Adrian in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association title game on Saturday, is just behind Augsburg at No. 5 in the PairWise rankings.
