Four Auggies earn MIAC women's hockey honors

2021-22 MIAC WOMEN'S HOCKEY AWARDS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Four Augsburg University women's hockey players earned postseason honors from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Monday, with forward Kensie Malone (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Gentry Academy HS) and defender Payton Allen (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) earning All-MIAC honors, forward Emily Cronkhite (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) earning MIAC All-Rookie Team honors, and goalie Abby Bollig (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) being named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team. It's the first MIAC postseason honors for all four Auggies.

Kensie MaloneMalone led the Auggies in scoring in the 2021-22 season, with 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points. Her goal total was tied for sixth-most among MIAC players in overall statistics, with her assist total tied for 12th-most and her point total sixth-most. Her five shorthanded goals set a new single-season school record, leading the MIAC and tied for the most among NCAA Division III players nationally this season. She scored a goal or had an assist in 16 of her 25 games played this season, with seven multi-point games and one multi-goal game. Her plus-9 plus-minus rating was tied for the second -best on the team. In her 36 career games, Malone now has 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points, with one power-play goal, six shorthanded goals and two game-winning goals.

Payton AllenAllen led Augsburg defenders in total scoring with 13 points, with two goals and a team-best-tying 11 assists. Her 11 assists were tied for the 12th-most among all MIAC players this season. Among MIAC defenders, Allen was tied for fourth in total points and tied for third in assists. She had a goal or assist in 12 of her 25 games this season, with one multi-point game. She joined Malone with a plus-9 plus-minus rating, tied for second-best on the team. In 63 career games, Allen now has three goals and 16 assists for 19 points, with a plus-12 plus-minus rating.

Emily CronkhiteCronkhite had a dynamic debut season for the Auggies, with nine goals and six assist for 15 points, second on the team in goals and third in assists. She claimed a team-best three game-winning goals, to go along with two power-play goals and two shorthanded goals. She claimed her first career hat trick with a three-goal effort in Augsburg's 4-2 win at Wisconsin-Superior on Dec. 7, one of her four multi-point games this season. She scored a goal or had an assist in 10 of her 25 games played this season.

Abby BolligBollig was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. A goalie who has had to overcome injuries that shortened her last three seasons, Bollig appeared in nine games (six starts) this season, with a 3.17 goals against-average and .867 save percentage, with a 2-2-0 record and two shutouts. She played in 28 games in her career, with a 2.03 goals against-average, .902 save percentage and 14-3-1 record with five shutouts. Her 14 wins are tied for 10th-most in school history, with her .902 save percentage ninth-best.

Augsburg finished the 2021-22 season with a 12-11-2 overall record and 8-6-2 conference mark under 12th-year head coach Michelle McAteer. It's the sixth straight full (non-COVID-shortened) season with 12 or more victories for the Auggies.
