MINNEAPOLIS -- A strong team effort kept the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team in the game early, but Cornell College pulled away in the second half, en route to a 16-7 decision in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference opener for both teams on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Cornell led Augsburg 3-2 early in the second goal, but a four-goal run by the Rams in the second quarter enabled the visitors to take a 7-4 halftime lead. The Rams outscored the Auggies by a 9-3 margin in the second half to produce the final margin of victory. Cornell outshot Augsburg by a 37-25 margin.

Maylynn Prokopec (SO, Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) continued her impressive campaign for the Auggies, scoring four goals with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. She now has 24 of Augsburg's 45 goals this season.

Malia Neumann (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) scored two goals, adding six draw controls, five caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Mackenzie Galazen (FY, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) scored a goal with five caused turnovers, three draw controls and three ground balls.

Alexa Hoffman (SO, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) had six ground balls, six caused turnovers and three draw controls.

Rylan Lee (FY, Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) had three caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls.

Shelby Ramirez (FY, Winthrop, Minn./Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop HS) had two ground balls, and
Alexa Martin (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Emma Meythaler (FY, Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins HS) started in goal and had one save in the first quarter.Â
Lay Reid (FY, West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) played the final three quarters in goal, collecting eight saves.
FOR THE FOES
• Sydney Swift scored seven goals, adding three caused turnovers, to lead Cornell. Anna Methe scored four goals with two assist, four draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
• Maddie Althoff had seven saves in the first half for the Rams, with Kathryn Andries claiming five saves in the second half.
