Auggies see Cobbers pull away late

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Augsburg University women's basketball team fought hard, but ultimately faltered down the stretch against Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday evening, dropping a 63-49 decision in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Concordia 63, Augsburg 49
LOCATION: Moorhead, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 9-6 overall (6-6 MIAC), Concordia 12-3 overall (9-3 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both offenses struggled to get going in the first quarter as both teams shot below 26% from the field. After ten minutes of play, the Cobbers held a 12-9 lead. The Cobber offense found more solid footing in the second quarter, pushing the Concordia advantage to 11 points at halftime.
• The Auggies finally found a groove in the third quarter as they cut the deficit to just one point near the midpoint, but the Cobbers did just enough to stay on top as they held a four-point lead at the final quarter break. With just 3:36 on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Concordia lead remained at four points. The Cobbers dominated the game's final minutes, however, closing the game on a 10-0 scoring run to secure the win.
Jaley Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) led Augsburg with 16 points, four rebounds, two steals, and a block. Samaiya Buchanan (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) was the only other Auggie in double figures with 11 points and four rebounds. Alli Born (FY, Otsego, Minn./Rogers HS) tallied eight points and Kalena Myers (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Amira LaDuke (FY, Cass Lake, Minn./Cass Lake-Bena HS) added six each.
• Augsburg had a much stronger effort off the bench, outscoring the Cobbers 25-11 in the category. Augsburg was also the better team in the turnover department, cashing in 12 Cobber turnovers for 12 points while Concordia only managed four points off seven Auggie turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• Emily Beseman led Concordia with 16 points while Jordyn Kahler was just behind her with 13.
