Auggies fall to conference-leading Knights

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Augsburg University men's basketball team dropped its first road contest since early December on Wednesday evening, falling 71-59 to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leading Carleton Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg led for a majority of the game's opening minutes, but the Knights jumped on top 22-20 with 6:36 on the clock and held a narrow lead for the remainder of the half, taking a 31-29 advantage to halftime.
• The first few minutes of the second half once again favored the Auggies as they tied the game up at 38 and briefly took a 40-38 lead shortly thereafter. The Knights controlled the final 15 minutes of the game, however, recapturing the lead and quickly pushing it to double digits on their way to the 12-point win.
• Kayser Hasaan (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) led the offensive effort for Augsburg, making five of his eight attempts on the floor for 13 points to go along with two steals.
Conner Knoepfle (SR, Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and Will Blascziek (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) each scored nine points while Colin Meade (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) added eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
• Augsburg was the stronger team below the basket, outscoring the Knights 28-24 in the painted area.

FOR THE FOES
• Jeremy Beckler led all scorers with 23 points while Luke Harris and Alex Gibbens added 12 and 11, respectively.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will host Gustavus on Saturday, January 28 at 1 pm at Si Melby Hall.
