Auggies collect 2-2 tie with Royals

MINNEAPOLIS – Kebba Janneh (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored in the eighth minute, and Mizael Harris (SO, Portland, Ore./La Salle Catholic College Prep HS) scored with 5:44 left to play, as the Augsburg University men's soccer team claimed a 2-2 tie with Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE:
 Augsburg 2, Bethel 2
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 7-2-4 overall (3-0-3 MIAC), Bethel 3-5-4 overall (1-3-3 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Janneh scored his team- and MIAC-leading 11th goal of the season at the 7:11 mark, completing a run up the field initiated by Ceazar Daniell (SO, Portland, Ore./Cleveland HS) and Mitchel Munzing (SO, Portland, Ore./Grant HS). Daniell and Munzing worked a give-and-go into the 18-yard box. Daniell was able to slide the ball forward past a charging Bethel goalkeeper to Janneh, who tapped the ball into the open net. Janneh now has a MIAC-leading 27 points (11 goals, five assists).
• Bethel took the lead with a pair of goals in a 3:35 span midway through the second half, but Harris tied the game for the Auggies with his fifth goal of the season in the 85th minute. Harris took a feed from Munzing, and sliced a shot from the top of the 18-yard box to the low left corner of the goal. Harris and Munzing are now tied for third place among MIAC players in total points, each with 21. Harris leads the MIAC with 11 assists, while Munzing stands second with seven.
• Augsburg was outshot by a 20-16 margin by Bethel. Auggie goalkeeper Oscar Herrera (SR, Madison, Wis./Madison West HS) made two saves.

FOR THE FOES
• Isaac Howell scored in the 67th minute, and James Oberholtzer scored in the 70th minute for Bethel.
• Juan Valdivia Cortes had eight saves for the Royals.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "If you don't score your clear chances, you have no chance of being highly successful in this league. It's too tight. Too many good teams fighting for the same thing, and tonight Bethel showed us how to battle. They outworked us. They followed their game plan. They got into good, wide spaces in our half and caused some trouble with that. We created scoring chances for them with silly fouls from anywhere inside 60 yards. They won most of the first and second balls. It was pretty hard to be a part of."

UP NEXT
