Auggies tie Scots, secure spot in MIAC playoffs

MINNEAPOLIS – Annika Rudolph (JR, Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) scored on a header off a corner kick in the 30th minute, as her Augsburg University women's soccer team secured a spot in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs with a 1-1 tie with Macalester College on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rudolph scored her first goal of the season at the 29:24 mark, heading home a corner kick by Hannah Hatfield (SO, Rogers, Ark./Rogers HS). 
• After being outshot by a 10-2 margin in the first half, Macalester tied the game 56 seconds into the second stanza, and used a pressing defense to maintain possession for a long stretch in the second half, outshooting the Auggies by an 11-5 margin. The Auggies had several chances to score, though, including a stretch with four corner kicks in a nine-minute span during the final 20 minutes of action.
Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) had three shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Phoebe Alva Rosa (SO, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) and McKenna Nachreiner (FY, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) had two shots on-goal each.
• Goalkeeper Iz Shuster (SR, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) had five saves.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg secured the No. 6 seed in the six-team MIAC postseason playoffs, and will face Macalester again in a quarterfinal game on Monday (10/30) at 4:30 p.m. at Macalester, the No. 4 seed.

FOR THE FOES
• Mia Brisbin scored for Macalester 56 seconds into the second half, stealing a Shuster clearing attempt and slotting a shot to the low left corner of the net.
• Abigail Heuga had 10 saves in goal for the Scots.
