Auggies fall to Falcons on the road

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Augsburg University women's basketball team crossed the border to Wisconsin to take on the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in nonconference action on Saturday afternoon, falling 67-48 to the Falcons at Don Page Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After opening a 17-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Falcons took control and pushed the lead all the way to 45-22 at halftime. UW-River Falls once again held a scoring advantage in the third quarter, outscoring the Auggies 14-9 to take a 59-31 lead. The Auggies managed to win their first and only quarter of the game in the fourth, outscoring the Falcons 17-8 to arrive at the game's final score of 67-48.
• As a team, Augsburg shot 30.6%, hitting on 15 of their 49 attempts from the field. The Falcons, by comparison, shot 39.0% with 23 of their 59 shots falling. The Auggies held a slight edge in free throw percentage, outshooting the Falcons 77.8% to 63.6%, and outscored UW-River Falls 5-3 on fast break opportunities.
• Samaiya Buchanan (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) proved to be the most impactful player for the Auggies, tying for the team lead with eight points while pulling down a team-leading 10 rebounds. Buchanan also added two steals and an assist.
Anja Smith (SR, Kewaskum, Wis./Saint Mary's Springs HS) tied with Buchanan as Augsburg's scoring leader, tallying eight points while nabbing three steals and two rebounds. Kalena Myers (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) was the third-leading scorer with seven points, two rebounds, and two steals.

FOR THE FOES

• The Falcons were led by Zoey Buchan and Julia Seidel, each pouring in 15 points.
• Olivia Miron finished with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for UW-River Falls.
