Auggies drop 67-38 decision to Bennies

MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University women's basketball team played host to the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday evening, falling to the Bennies 67-38 at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg worked out to a 6-3 lead in the game's opening minutes, but the Bennies closed the quarter on a 14-7 run to take a 17-13 lead at the quarter break. Saint Benedict controlled most of the second frame, outscoring Augsburg 22-8 to claim a 39-21 advantage at halftime. The Bennies' lead never dipped below 16 in the second half as they cruised to the 67-38 win.
• As a team, the Auggies hit 14 of their 53 attempts (26.4%) from the field while the Bennies connected on 24-of-58 (41.4%). Each team brought down 12 offensive boards, but the Auggies were better at capitalizing on them with 15 second chance points to the Bennies' nine.
Amira LaDuke (SO, Cass Lake, Minn./Cass Lake-Bena HS) and Katie Manecke (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) led the team with nine points each, adding two and one rebounds, respectively. Kalena Myers (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Samaiya Buchanan (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) led the team with eight rebounds and added four points while Wakinyela Bear (SO, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki HS) added six rebounds and five points.

FOR THE FOES

• Kira Young led all players with 19 points and five rebounds for Saint Benedict.
• Reigning MIAC Offensive Player of the Week Carla Meyer added 11 points and six rebounds.

UP NEXT

• The Auggies will host St. Olaf College on Saturday (12/9) at 1 pm in a MIAC battle.
