Auggies close regular season with loss at CSS

DULUTH, Minn. -- Surrendering three goals in the first period, the Augsburg University men's hockey team could not recover in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season finale with the College of St. Scholastica, as the league champion Saints scored a 4-1 victory on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Saints scored 91 seconds into play, and added goals at the 10:34 and 16:50 marks of the opening period to take a commanding lead. The Auggies cut the lead to 3-1 on a goal midway through the third period, but St. Scholastica scored 36 seconds later to claim the final margin of victory.
• Logan Kons (JR, Niles, Ill./Niles West HS) scored for Augsburg at the 10:24 mark of the third period, assisted by Erik Palmqvist (SR, Linkoping, Sweden/Anderstorpsgymnasiet) and Peyton Hanson (FY, Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS).
 • St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by a 25-24 margin. Gavin Holland (SR, Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Fritz Belisle (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) had four shots on-goal each for the Auggies.
• Samuel Vyletelka (SO, Zilina, Slovakia/Grammar School of St. Francis of Assisi) had 21 saves in goal.

FOR THE FOES
• Arkhip Ledenkov, Carsen Richels and Jack Fuss had a goal and assist each for St. Scholastica, with Brodie Girod adding the other Saints goal.
• Jack Branby had 23 saves in goal.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is the No. 2 seed in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs, and will host No. 3-seed Saint John's in a semifinal game next Saturday (2/25) at 7 p.m. at Ed Saugestad Rink.
