Auggies top Scots 70-46 in final game of the season

MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University women's basketball team wrapped up its season on Saturday afternoon, using a dominant second half performance to take down Macalester College 70-46 on Senior Day at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a sluggish start to the opening quarter, the Auggies quickly found themselves down 12-6. Augsburg rallied from that point, however, finishing the quarter on a 9-3 scoring run to tie the game at 15 at the first quarter break. The second quarter contained five lead changes with Macalester holding a narrow 24-22 edge at the half.
• Augsburg dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Scots 24-10 to take a 12-point lead to the final quarter break. The fourth quarter was a similar story with Augsburg outscoring the Scots 24-12 to punctuate the dominant victory.
• Jaley Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had a strong showing in the final game of her collegiate career, leading all scorers with 22 points on 9-16 shooting and 3-5 from beyond the arc while grabbing seven rebounds and two steals.
• Kalena Myers (JR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) was second on the team with 10 points on 5-10 shooting while Wakinyala Bear (FY, Marshalltown, Iowa/Meskwaki HS) added nine points off the bench.
• Nikole Gullerud (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) finished with eight points and two rebounds in her final collegiate appearance while Grace Eastman (SR, Elk River, Minn./St. Francis HS) scored five and pulled down five rebounds in her final game.
• As a team, the Auggies hit on 29 of their 66 attempts on the day (43.9%) while Macalester went just 17-47 (36.2%). Augsburg dominated in bench points 25-4 and doubled the Scots in points in the paint by a margin of 36-18.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

• With the win, the Auggies finish the season at 13-12 overall, marking the eighth-straight full season the Auggies have finished at or above .500. Eighth-year Head Coach Ted Riverso has never finished a full season with a sub-.500 winning percentage at Augsburg. 

FOR THE FOES
• Peyton Starks and Katherine Norquist provided most of the scoring for Macalester with 20 and 15 points, respectively.
