NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Augsburg University women's basketball team took on St. Olaf College in Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, falling 72-59 at the Skoglund Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies held a narrow advantage for much of the first quarter and led 13-9 with just over a minute remaining, but the Oles closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 13 at the first quarter break. St. Olaf took the lead on a three-pointer less than a minute into the second quarter and never looked back, pushing the lead as high as nine before heading to the locker room with a 35-27 advantage.
• Augsburg cut the deficit to six points four times during the third quarter, but the Oles refused to relinquish control as they carried a 54-47 lead into the final intermission. The Auggies made it a five-point game early in the fourth quarter, but the Oles put together one final scoring surge as they pulled away late to seal the double-digit win.

Anja Smith (JR, Kewaskum, Wis./Saint Mary's Springs HS) finished as the scoring leader for Augsburg with 19 points and four rebounds in the game.
Jaley Coplin (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) was the only other Auggie in double figures with 16 points on 5-8 shooting to go along with three rebounds.
Samaiya Buchanan (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) and
Alli Born (FY, Otsego, Minn./Rogers HS) each finished 3-6 from the field, scoring seven and six points, respectively.
• Led by Smith, Augsburg's second unit was much stronger than St. Olaf's with a 34-7 advantage in points off the bench. Augsburg also took much better care of the basketball winning the turnover margin 9-18 leading to a 17-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
FOR THE FOES
• Rachel Kelly finished with 19 points to lead St. Olaf while Grace Hegland score 18 and Cassie Fix added 13.
