ST. PETER, Minn. – The Augsburg University women's hockey team's outstanding season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-2 to the top-seeded and top-ranked Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies quickly found themselves in a 2-0 hole in the first period, surrendering two goals in a span of less than 90 seconds in the game's first eight minutes. The Gusties would add to their lead with a goal near the midpoint of the second period.
• Trailing 3-0 entering the final period, Augsburg got on the board when
Jenna Gerold (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) scored on the power play with just over 15 minutes remaining with assists going to
Katie Flynn (SR, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) and
Emily Cronkhite (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS). The goal was Gerold's seventh of the season and her second of the MIAC playoffs.
• With goalie
Chloe Stockinger (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) pulled off the ice in favor of an extra attacker, Augsburg pulled within one when
Emily Schoeberl (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) cleaned up a rebound off a shot from Gerold for her eighth goal of the season with just 1:49 to play.
Tenley Stewart also picked up an assist on the goal.
• The Gusties ended Augsburg's hopes for a rally with an empty-net goal to restore the two-goal advantage with under a minute remaining.
• The Auggies were outshot 29-14 in the game, with Stockinger making 25 saves in goal.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The game was Augsburg's fourth appearance in the MIAC title game, now holding a 1-3 record all-time after winning the inaugural tournament in 2000 and finishing as runners-up in 2017 and 2020.
FOR THE FOES
• Kristina Press scored two goals for the Gusties, while Brooke Power and Hailey Holland each scored one. Emily Olson and Gabby Slykas each picked up one assist on the day.
• Gustavus goalie Katie McCoy made 12 saves in the game.
• With the win, Gustavus receives the conference's automatic bid the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Tournament starting next week.
