Auggies end season with loss to Hamline

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University women's lacrosse team ended its 2023 season with a 13-5 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference loss to Hamline University on Sunday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Hamline scored the first five goals of the game and took a 7-2 advantage into the halftime break. The Pipers pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Auggies by a 5-1 margin. Hamline had 31 shots to Augsburg's 19 in the game.
• Jade Wilson (FY, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) led the Auggies with three goals, five ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
• Mackenzie Galazen (SO, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) scored a goal with five draw controls and two ground balls.
• Beatriz Sandoval Gomez (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) scored a goal with a ground ball, and Abby Luallen (FY, Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola HS) had an assist.
• Alexa Martin (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had a draw control and two caused turnovers.
• Rylan Lee (SR, Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) had two ground balls and a draw control, and Kayla Courtney (JR, Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) added two ground balls.
• Goalie Nicole Schuster (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had nine saves, four ground balls and a caused turnover.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Sunday's game marked the fifth annual "Pride Game" between Augsburg and Hamline, celebrating and promoting inclusivity, equity and equality for all, showing support for the LGBTQ+ community.
• Wilson finished the season at the MWLC's leader in goals (56), points (58) and draw controls (95), while standing second in ground balls (69) and third in caused turnovers (35). She set a new single-season school record for goals with her three goals on Sunday, breaking the old mark of 53, set by Helena Nguyen in 2018. Wilson's 58 points are the third-most in a single season in school history. Her 69 ground balls tie a single-season school record, also set by Maddie Seykora (2019) and Delaney Everett (2017). Her 95 draw controls are fourth-most in a season, and her 35 caused turnovers are tied for seventh-most.

FOR THE FOES
• Avery Wilson scored four goals with two draw controls and a ground ball to lead Hamline. Maitland Luksan scored three goals.
• Justine Case had 12 saves in goal for the Pipers
