LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Augsburg University volleyball team opened play at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational on Friday evening, securing a five-set win over the University of Minnesota Morris at Mitchell Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After taking a hotly contested opening set 30-28, the Auggies cruised to a 25-17 win in set two. Minnesota Morris fought back and secured the subsequent two sets to even the match at 2-2. It was the Auggies finishing stronger in the final frame, notching a 15-6 win to take the match 3-2.
• Neither team was particularly efficient on the attack throughout the match with the Cougars outhitting Augsburg .133 to .118 as a unit. Augsburg boasted a better serve percentage at .902 to the .890 of the Cougars.

Bri Van Well (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) led the attack for the Auggies, logging 17 kills while hitting an efficient .310.
Emily Kaup (JR, Omaha, Neb./Duchesne Academy) came near double digits in multiple categories with nine kills and eight digs while
Elizabeth Oster (FY, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) ranked third on the team with seven kills in four sets played.

Torrie Rehder (JR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) took charge of the defensive effort for Augsburg, tallying 21 digs and two set assists.
Bria Sandifer (SR, St. Paul, Minn./North St. Paul HS) logged a 21-assist, 11-dig double-double for Augsburg, the first of her career.
Angel Vo (JR, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) contributed 17 assists, eight digs, and eight service aces for the Auggies.
FOR THE FOES
• Laura Wellbrock led the Cougars with 14 kills in the match while Ava Brunn was the defensive anchor with 23 digs.
