Auggies win two to complete perfect weekend

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Augsburg University volleyball team wrapped up play at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational on Saturday afternoon, capping off a perfect weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Martin Luther College and a 3-1 win over Simpson College.

AUGSBURG 3, MARTIN LUTHER 0
• The Auggies dominated the Knights from the opening serve, winning sets by 11, four, and 19 points to complete the sweep.
• The Auggie attack was extremely efficient in the match, hitting .347 as a unit with 36 kills and just 10 errors. The back row also did its part, holding the Knights to a -.023-team hitting percentage with 21 kills and 23 errors.
• Augsburg held an advantage in nearly every statistical category, holding a 43-29 edge in digs, a 36-20 edge in assists, and a 7-2 edge in service aces.
• Bri Van Well (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) made the most of her attack opportunities, leading the team with nine kills an an incredible .427 hitting clip. Elizabeth Oster (FY, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) was also a strong contributor, logging eight kills with a .357 hitting percentage.
• Libero Torrie Rehder (JR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) led the defensive effort once again, tallying 16 digs and four set assists. Jovial King (FY, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) ranked second on the team with nine digs and was the go-to setter with 18 set assists.

AUGSBURG 3, SIMPSON 1
• After the Storm outlasted the Auggies 26-24 in the opening set, Augsburg returned the favor with a 30-28 win in set two. The Auggies took control for the final two sets, winning by 10 and eight, respectively to take the match 3-1.  
• The Augsburg attack, though slightly less efficient than in its first match, still held a decisive edge over the Storm, outhitting them .274 to .192. Augsburg also held narrow advantages in aces (16-12), blocks (4-2), assists (49-45), and digs (49-46).
• Van Well was outstanding for Augsburg, shattering her previous career high of 22 kills with 25 on a .440 hitting clip. Her 25 kills rank fifth in single-match school history in the rally scoring era (2001-present). Taylor Hoehns (SO, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford HS) and GK LeMonds (JR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) ranked second and third on the team with seven and six kills, respectively.
• Rehder matched her career high for the second time this season with 30 digs in the match while Angel Vo (JR, Blaine, Minn./Mounds View HS) led the team with 22 set assists.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Rehder was named to the All-Tournament team for her outstanding defensive effort throughout the weekend.

FOR THE FOES
• Jada Schmidt and Peyton Mitchell led Simpson with 12 kills each with Schmidt also adding 11 digs for the double-double.

• The Auggies will open Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Saint Benedict on Wednesday, September 20 at 7 pm in St. Joseph, Minn.
