Hail Mary prayer answered! Auggies top Gusties 33-31

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Cade Sheehan (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) threw a game-winning, 34-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Tyrone Wilson (SO, Ellendale, Minn./New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva HS) with one second remaining in the game, giving Augsburg University a 33-31 victory over host Gustavus Adolphus College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football contest on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 33, Gustavus 31
LOCATION: Hollingsworth Field, St. Peter, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 3-0 overall (1-0 MIAC), Gustavus 1-2 overall (0-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg held the lead for most of the contest, until the Gusties went ahead on a 23-yard touchdown pass from George Sandven to Caden Kleinschmidt with 22 seconds left to play.
DJ Monroe (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) returned the ensuing kickoff 25 yards, giving the Auggies the ball at their own 43-yard-line with 14 seconds left. Sheehan then completed a 23-yard pass to tight end Michael Ims (SR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS), giving the Auggies the ball at the Gustavus 34 with seven seconds left.
• After an Augsburg timeout, Sheehan heaved a pass to the front right corner of the end zone, where Wilson leaped between two Gustavus defenders to catch the ball for the score, his fourth touchdown reception of the season and seventh of his career.
• Gustavus had one final play from its 25-yard line, but on a catch and series of laterals, the final lateral was picked off by Augsburg's Hamsa Kahin (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Edina HS), ending the game and giving the Auggies the victory on Gustavus' Homecoming day.
• Sheehan completed 20-of-25 passes for 274 yards and five touchdowns, giving him 10 touchdown passes on the year and 65 in his Augsburg career. The game was the eighth of Sheehan's career where he has recorded four or more touchdown passes. In addition to his 274 passing yards, Sheehan also rushed for 69 yards on 11 carries.
• Three of Sheehan's touchdown passes went to Dominic Smith (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) -- scores of 10 and 13 yards in the first quarter, and a 16-yarder in the third quarter. Smith caught four passes for 57 yards in the game. Wilson added a 17-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter, giving him three catches for 65 yards and two scores. Braden Tretter (SR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) caught five passes for 69 yards.
DJ Monroe (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) rushed 14 times for 51 yards for the Auggies.
• Defensively, linebacker Hamsa Kahin (JR, Edina, Minn./Edina HS) had an outstanding day, leading the Auggies with seven tackles (six solo), including two sacks, two of Augsburg's four sacks in the game. Kahin also had two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup.
Tray Bogard-Merrick (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Patrick Henry HS), Justin Tverberg (SR, Farmington, Minn./Hastings HS) and Tramone Nevels (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had six tackles each for the Auggie defense.
