MINNEAPOLIS --
Remus Repcak (FY, Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) scored his first two collegiate goals on Tuesday night, leading the Augsburg University men's soccer team in a 4-1 nonconference victory over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul at Edor Nelson Field.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE:Â Augsburg 4, Northwestern-St. Paul 1
LOCATION:Â Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 2-0-1 overall, Northwestern-St. Paul 0-2-0 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Repcak scored his first goal at the 6:52 mark of the contest, connecting on a one-timer in front off a service from the low left corner of the 18-yard box by
Ceazar Daniell (SO, Portland, Ore./Cleveland HS).
•
Mizael Harris (SO, Portland, Ore./La Salle Catholic College Prep HS) gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead at the 26:03 mark.Â
Mitchel Munzing (SO, Portland, Ore./Grant HS) stole a centering attempt by the Eagles, tapped the ball toÂ
Kebba Janneh (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) at the top of the 18-yard box, and his feed found Harris, who eluded a defender and put the ball in the net for his first goal of the season.
• Augsburg scored twice in a 2:36 span midway through the second half, bracketing a Northwestern tally. Daniell drove uncontested into the 18-yard box, slipped a pass to his right to Janneh, who dropped the ball for a one-timer by Munzing for his second goal of the season.
• Twelve seconds after the Eagles scored their lone goal, Repcak scored his second goal of the game, scoring in front on a one-timer off a left-side drive by Harris.
• The Auggies held a 53-to-47-percent advantage in possession time, with their defense providing a firm presence in the Eagles' attacking third. Northwestern was limited to just six shots in the game and three shots on-frame, while its offense only had 17 percent of its possession time in its attacking third.
• Twenty-three Auggies saw game action, with all but one Auggie playing 15 minutes or more. The Auggies had 21 shots in the game, including nine on-goal, with 11 different Auggies recording shots.
• Goalkeeper
Oscar Herrera (SR, Madison, Wis./Madison West HS) had two saves in a winning effort.
FOR THE FOES
• Garrett Miers scored from Joey McMillin for the Eagles in the 66th minute, scoring on a rising shot from the top right corner of the 18-yard box.
• Kyle Dipzinski had five saves for Northwestern.
QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• We showed flashes of some really good attacking ability tonight. Our second half was certainly an improvement from the first, as we increased high-quality chances by a significant amount. If we can convert at a higher rate, we can be a dangerous and fun team to watch."
• "Remus has been a great addition to the program, and has steadily improved through the pre-season. I love that he hit for a brace in his home-opening game. He was inches away from another point when he played Kebba across the six, but Kebba got just a touch ahead of it and couldn't pull it across the line. Even though he didn't score, Kebba was impactful giving us an outlet deeper between their lines. His holdup play and ability to flick balls in behind to Mitch was outstanding."
• "We were able to get a lot of guys into the game, giving several first year players some minutes. I thought
Yonis Muse was exciting to watch on the left edge, as was
Owen Salzwedel. Those two transfers give us some pretty good depth on the wings.Â
Eric Riera was really good in place of Ceazar, mimicking the movements we are looking for from our left side really well.
Ayden Lee seemed to be everywhere tonight on both sides of the ball, making a massive difference in transition."
• "We don't like giving up goals, but the finish from Miers was first class. As good as his goal was, our response to score from the next kickoff was outstanding."
