NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Following a game-tying three-pointer by
Trent Gomez (FY, Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) that sent the game to overtime, the Augsburg University men's basketball team finished strong in an 85-76 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over St. Olaf College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After playing to a 29-29 tie with 4:03 on the clock in the first half, the Auggies jumped on top to take a 36-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Augsburg led for more than 12 minutes coming out of the break, pushing the advantage as high as eight points, but the Oles managed to tie the game back up at 53 each with just over seven minutes in regulation. The game turned into a back-and-forth affair from there with seven quick lead changes eventually resulting in St. Olaf holding a 68-65 lead with just 10 seconds on the clock.
• On the ensuing possession,
Caden Sullivan (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) quickly worked the ball down the court, leaving the ball to Gomez who successfully pump faked a defender before nailing a game-tying triple with just four seconds remaining that would eventually send the game to overtime.
• Augsburg started slow in the extra minutes, but eventually recovered to finish the game on a 17-2 scoring run that secured the win.
• The Auggies put together the better shooting performance of the two teams, hitting on 33 of their 78 attempts (42.3%) from the field compared to St. Olaf's 28-of-73 (38.4%) shooting clip. Augsburg also took better care of the basketball, holding an 18-12 edge in turnovers and turning that into an 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
• Sullivan came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with a career-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, also adding four rebounds. Gomez led the starters with 15 points and six rebounds, also tying his career best with five steals.

Colin Meade (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) finished with 14 points and five rebounds while
Will Blascziek (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) and
Isaac Rabaey (JR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Austin Jentzen (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) led the Auggies with eight rebounds, also scoring eight points.
FOR THE FOES
• Addison Metcalf led the Oles with 19 points in 40 minutes off the bench.
