89th minute goal gives Auggies win over Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Phoebe Alva Rosa (JR, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) scored the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute, lifting the Augsburg University women's soccer team to a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, Concordia-Moorhead 1
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 6-3-4 overall (2-1-4 MIAC), Concordia 7-4-0 overall (3-3-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Alva Rosa's first goal of the season came with 1:05 left in the contest. Abby Rosebur (JR, South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS) played the ball at midfield forward to Amalia Lee (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) on the left wing, and she centered the ball to an open Alva Rosa. Alva Rosa collected it on the right side of the 18-yard box, and she sent a line drive across to the low left corner, past a diving Concordia goalkeeper.
• Augsburg took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. Alva Rosa played a long ball forward from midfield to Allison Hookom (JR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS), who pushed the ball forward into the 18-yard box. Concordia's goalkeeper dove to make a save, but the ball slipped behind her, and Hookom pounced on the loose ball and tapped it home for her third goal of the season.
• The game was evenly matched throughout. Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 16-14 margin and had a 10-6 advantage in shots on-goal. The Auggies held 53-to-47-percent possession advantage in the game, while Concordia had five corner kicks to Augsburg's two.
• Making her fourth collegiate start in goal, Claire Smothers (FY, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) surrendered her first goal of the season in the 65th minute, but claimed five saves to pick up the win.
• Hookom and Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) had three shots each, and Alva Rosa had two shots.
