Andy Stafford (SR, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) scored 28 points and
Trent Gomez (SO, Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) scored 25 points, leading the Augsburg University men's basketball team in an 88-82 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Macalester College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg used a 16-3 run midway through the first half to take a 26-17 advantage, and the Auggies held a 41-32 lead at the break. The Auggies extended the lead to 12 points before an 8-2 Macalester run cut the lead to 59-55 with 10:52 left. Augsburg responded with a 14-3 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 73-58 with 8:13 left.
• Returning to the lineup after missing the last four games due to injury, Stafford scored 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field, adding five rebounds in 25 minutes of action off the bench.
• Gomez scored a career-high 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field, including a 5-of-6 effort from three-point range. He added three assists and two steals.

Elias Batala (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had 11 points, with two assists and three steals, and
Mario Adams (SO, Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) scored nine points.
Julien Hussherr (JR, Strasbourg, Alsace, France/Episcopal Saint Etienne HS) had nine rebounds and five assists.
• Augsburg connected on 54.1 percent shooting (33-of-61) from the field, hitting 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) from three-point range. The Auggies outrebounded the Gusties by a 34-32 margin.

• With the victory, Augsburg head coach
Aaron Griess has tied former coach Ernie Anderson '37 for the most victories in Auggie men's basketball history. Griess now has a 266-216 record in 20 seasons at Augsburg; Anderson was 266-239 in 23 seasons (1947-1980).
FOR THE FOES
• Kaden Holdbrook scored 23 points with six rebounds and four assists to lead Macalester, while Noah Shannon scored 19 points with seven rebounds and four assists.
• Ryan Brush scored 17 points and Eric Wentz scored 12 points with six rebounds and four assists.
