Gusties score 5-1 win over Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS -- Cade Stibbe (JR, Fargo, N.D./Fargo Davies HS) scored his second goal of the season in the first period for Augsburg University, but Gustavus Adolphus College scored the next five goals in succession, claiming a 5-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey victory on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Stibbe gave the Auggies the first goal of the contest, snapping a rising wrist shot in the slot off feeds from Daniel Chladek (SR, Anaheim, Calif./Canyon HS) and Michael Ferrandino (JR, Lisle, Ill./Waterloo West (Iowa) HS) at the 17:42 mark of the first period.
• Gustavus tied the game two minutes later on a power-play goal, then scored two goals in the second period and two more in the third period to claim the victory and the sweep of the MIAC weekend series.
• The Gusties outshot the Auggies by a 36-26 margin in the game, including a 27-13 advantage in the final two periods.
• Ferrandino and Landon Parker (SO, East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks HS) had four shots on-goal in the game. Jack Cotter (FY, Canton, Mich./Salem HS) and Jake Osiecki (SR, Verona, Wis./Verona HS) had three blocked shots each.
• Augsburg goalie Carsen Stokes (SO, Prior Lake, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) had 26 saves.

FOR THE FOES
• Grant Ellings and Jack Anderson had a goal and an assist each for the Gusties, with Jackson McCarthy recording two assists.
• Marko Belak had 25 saves.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg is now idle for the holiday break, and returns to acton on Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. wtih a nonconference game at Wisconsin-River Falls.
