Auggies fall to Scots in season finale

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Despite scoring 15 unanswered points late in the second half, the Augsburg University men's basketball team wrapped up its season on Saturday, falling to Macalester College 79-65 at the Leonard Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half contained eight lead changes as the two teams went blow-for-blow, but it was Macalester holding a 42-35 lead at halftime.
• The Macalester advantage ballooned to as many as 27 points in the second half with the Scots leading 73-46 with 7:03 left to play. The Auggies managed to find a spark soon after, scoring 15 unanswered points to make it an 11-point game at 75-64 with 1:56 to play. The hole proved to be too large to overcome, however, as the Scots hung on for the 79-65 win.
• The Auggies knocked down 23 of their 56 attempts from the field (41.1%) while the Scots shot 30-of-71 (42.3%). Augsburg had a significant advantage in points from its bench players, outscoring Macalester 41-24 in the category.
Elias Batala (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) led the Auggies with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, also adding four rebounds and two assists.
• The trio of Colin Meade (SR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS), Austin Jentzen (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), and Caden Sullivan finished with 10 points each, adding four, six, and seven rebounds, respectively.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• The game marked the final collegiate appearances for three Auggie seniors: Nick Hendler, Austin Jentzen, and Caden Scales.
 
FOR THE FOES
• Caleb Williams led all scorers with 22 points and five rebounds in the contest.
