Late goal lifts Auggies over Pioneers 11-10

MINNEAPOLIS – Getting a go-ahead goal from Jade Wilson (SO, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) with 1:54 remaining in the game, the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team hung on for an 11-10 win over Lewis & Clark College (Ore.) on Saturday morning.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 11, Lewis & Clark 10
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 1-2 overall, Lewis & Clark 0-2 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With each team fielding just 11 players to start the game, the Auggies got off to a strong start with Abaigeal Luallen (SO, Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola HS) scoring her first collegiate goal just over two minutes into the game to give Augsburg an early 1-0 lead. Wilson added a goal with 4:03 remaining in the period to extend the Auggie advantage, but the Pioneers scored twice in a span of 14 seconds to tie the game at 2-2.
• The Auggies scored three unanswered in the second period to retake the advantage at 5-2, but the Pioneers mounted a strong response ounce again with two goals in the final minute of the half to cut the deficit to a single goal at halftime.
• Augsburg quickly restored a three-goal cushion with a pair of scores early in the third, but the Pioneers managed yet another multi-goal surge to tie the game at seven each with 24 seconds on the clock. Wilson won the ensuing draw control for the Auggies, streaking down the field to restore the lead with a goal just eight seconds later.
• After two early goals in the fourth put Lewis & Clark up 9-8, the Auggies responded with two goals of their own to flip the one-goal edge. The Pioneers would go on to tie the game at 10-10 with just 3:30 remaining in regulation. Wilson gave the Auggies the answer they needed just over a minute later, scoring her sixth goal of the game to give the Auggies an 11-10 lead that would hold until the final horn.
• Wilson finished the game with six goals, an assist, and seven draw controls, giving her a third hat trick in as many games this season.
Jessica Paul (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) tallied her first goal as an Auggie in the game, scoring twice and adding an assist, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Mackenzie Galazen (JR, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS), Leila Klym (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS), and Luallen scored once each for Augsburg, marking the first career goals for Klym and Luallen.
• Goalie Nicole Schuster (SO, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) recorded nine saves and two ground balls in the win.
