Auggies drop 70-46 contest to Pipers

MINNEAPOLIS – The Augsburg University women's basketball team hosted Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference battle on Saturday afternoon, dropping the contest 70-46 at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Auggies quickly found themselves in a hole to open the contest, trailing 18-5 at the first quarter break and 40-21 at halftime. Augsburg was outscored once again in the third by a 17-11 margin, but managed to narrowly outscore the Pipers 14-13 in the final frame.
• Augsburg held a slight edge in the turnover margin, committing 14 turnovers while Hamline committed 15. That margin led to a 17-12 advantage in points off turnovers for the Auggies. 
Kalena Myers (SR, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) was the only Auggie in double figures with 12 points, four steals, and two rebounds. Saylor Gallagher (FY, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) was second on the team with seven points and three rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.
Wakinyela Bear (SO, Morrison, Colo./Meskwaki HS) and Amira LaDuke (SO, Cass Lake, Minn./Cass Lake-Bena HS) finished with six points each, also adding two and five rebounds, respectively.
Melanie Delestrez (SO, Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) led the rebounding effort with six boards for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES

• Camille Cummings led all scorers with 18 points for the Pipers.
• Faith Johnson finished with an 11-point, 14-rebound double-double.

• Augsburg will take on Saint Mary's University in MIAC action on Wednesday (2/7) at 7 pm in Winona, Minn.
