ST. PETER, Minn. – Playing as the home team in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College, the Augsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of games to the Golden Gusties on Friday afternoon.
THE BASICS

GAME ONE: GUSTAVUS 7, AUGSBURG 0
• The Auggie offense was held in check for most of game one, managing just three hits, all of them singles, throughout the contest. The Gusties opened the game with two runs in the first before tacking on three more in the second. A two-run fifth inning for Gustavus capped off the scoring for the game.
• Making the start on the mound for the Auggies,
Austin Lang (SO, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) was ultimately charged with the loss after allowing nine hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work.
Jake Pittelkow (SO, Roseville, Minn./Simley HS) was effective in his three innings of relief, allowing just two hits with one strikeout.

Adam Marshall (JR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS),
Lance Nayman (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS), and
Stanley Regguinti (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) each hit singles for the Auggies.
GAME TWO: GUSTAVUS 15, AUGSBURG 1
• The Gusties struck first again in game two with three runs in the top of the third, but the Auggies responded in the bottom half of the inning when
Drew Jenkins (SO, Farmington, Minn./Randolph HS) hit a sacrifice fly that scored
Andruw Vela (FY, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS). Gustavus went on to score 12 unanswered runs to win the game in eight innings.
• The Auggies were again held to three hits, with
Carter Peterson (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) going 2-for-3 and Vela finishing 1-for-3.
• Starting pitcher
Myer Schmitz (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) took the loss for Augsburg, giving up five hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts.
FOR THE FOES
• Mitch Casperson pitched a complete game shutout in game one for Gustavus, allowing just three hits and one walk while recording 12 strikeouts in his 7.0 innings on the mound.
