MANKATO, Minn. --
Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) claimed her second career hat trick with a three-goal effort, leading the Augsburg University women's soccer team in a 6-0 nonconference victory at Bethany Lutheran College on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg dominated the game from start to finish, outshooting the Vikings by a 31-7 margin, including 19 shots on-goal to Bethany Lutheran's two. Augsburg had an 18-3 advantage in corner kicks, and held the ball by a 65-to-35-percent advantage.
• Ponce recorded her second collegiate corner kick and her fifth career multi-goal game, scoring the first two goals of the game, and adding her final goal as part of an Auggie four-goal flourish in the final 12 minutes of play. Her first goal came in the 24th minute, as she scored following a blocked shot by
Annika Rudolph (SR, Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS), working the ball past several defenders and putting the ball in the net. Her second goal came in the 49th minute, as she scored on a sprint following a long ball pass from Rudolph.
• Augsburg finished the game with four goals in a seven-minute span late in the contest.
Denise Hamdan (SO, Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul HS), a transfer from Hamline, scored her first goal as an Auggie off a corner kick by
McKenna Nachreiner (SO, Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee HS) in the 79th minute. Three minutes later,
Amalia Lee (FY, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) scored her first collegiate goal, taking a pass in the box by Hamdan following a long pass by
Grace Dickerson (JR, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS).
• Ponce scored on a sprint following a long pass over the defense by
Danielle Wagner (JR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) in the 84th minute, and two minutes later,
Megan Hensel (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) scored her second goal off the season, following up a rebound of her initial shot with a strike that deflected off a defender and went into the net.
• Sixteen different Auggies saw action in the game, all playing 20 minutes or more.
• Making her first collegiate start in goal,
Claire Smothers (FY, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) had two saves to record the shutout victory.
