Late goals give Augsburg 8th straight victory

MINNEAPOLIS – Nora Stepan (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored with 2:05 remaining in regulation time, and another goal in the final minute gave the Augsburg University women's hockey team its eighth straight victory, a 2-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at St. Olaf College on Friday evening.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, St. Olaf 0
LOCATION: St. Olaf Ice Arena, Northfield, Minn.
RECORDS: Augsburg 15-2-1 overall (10-1-0 MIAC), St. Olaf 8-9-1 overall (5-5-1 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Stepan scored her team-leading 10th goal in the season at the 17:55 mark of the third period, taking a drop pass from Ruby Eskin (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Roseville HS) and firing a wrist shot from the point through a screen of players in front, bouncing off the right post and going in the net.
• The Auggies added an insurance tally on a shorthanded, empty-net goal with 23 seconds left, as an Ole pass went past a teammate and back into their own net. Elizabeth Fagerlind (SR, Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS), as the last Auggie to touch the puck, was credited with the goal.
Kayla Simonson (FY, Delano, Minn./Delano HS) claimed her fifth shutout of the season in goal, stopping all 15 shots she faced in the game. The shutout victory was Augsburg's ninth of the season in its 18th game, setting a new single-season school record. Augsburg's nine team shutouts are the most among MIAC teams and tied for the most among NCAA Division III schools nationally.
• Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 21-15 margin, including a 12-7 margin in the third period. Stepan had eight shots on-goal in the game, while Emily Cronkhite (SR, Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) had four shots.
• Augsburg also had 17 blocked shots in the contest, with Jenna Allen (FY, Minnetonka, Minn./Holy Family Catholic HS) recording four blocked shots and Tenley Stewart (JR, Esko, Minn./Esko HS) blocking three shots.
