Auggies end season holding onto The Hammer

MINNEAPOLIS -- Behind a 13-catch, 144-yard, three-touchdown receiving performance by Tyrone Wilson (SR, Ellendale, Minn./New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva HS), the Augsburg University football team closed its 2025 season keeping "The Hammer" traveling trophy for the sixth straight year, with a 43-3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Hamline University on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Hamline scored the first three points of the game early in the second quarter, but after that, it was all Augsburg, as the Auggies outgained the Pipers by a 429-216 margin. Augsburg also scored a pair of defensive touchdowns to cap the season.
• Wilson recorded his sixth 100-yard-plus receiving game of the season and 12th of his collegiate career, with his 13-catch, 144-yard effort. He finished the season with 87 catches for 1,068 yards and 11 touchdowns.
• Quarterback Caden Rodkewich (JR, New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) completed 26-of-33 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.
• Tight end Michael Lau (SR, Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) caught seven passes for a season-high 76 yards.
Rashad Sherwood (JR, Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) claimed his third interception of the season in the second quarter, returning it 54 yards for a touchdown.
Nick Norman (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) gave the Auggies a second defensive touchdown late in the first half, as he fell on the loose ball in the end zone after a bad snap to the Hamline quarterback from the 15-yard line.
Omar Madkour (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) scored on a 57-yard rushing touchdown in the second half.
• Kicker Nathan Wangensteen (SR, Chisholm, Minn./Chisholm HS) capped the scoring with a 31-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, ending his career as Augsburg's all-time kicking points leader with 167, including a school-record 116 extra points and 17 career field goals, tied for second-most in school history.
• RJ Chakolis (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Hopkins HS) led a balanced Auggie defense with five tackles (two solo). Eleven players had three or more tackles in the game for the Auggies.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The win was the sixth straight for Augsburg over Hamline in the battle for "The Hammer" traveling trophy. Augsburg has won 12 of the last 15 meetings between the two schools.
• Since "The Hammer" trophy game was established in 2005, Augsburg is now 16-4 in the teams' 20 meetings.
• The game was the final collegiate contest for 10 Augsburg seniors -- Lau, Norman, Wangensteen, Wilson, Jax Bokman (SR, Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy HS), Evan Coffey (SR, St. Paul, Minn./Two Rivers HS), Conner Elliott (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS), Tayvion Gardner (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS), Yassin Hersi (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) and Joe Zachow (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS).

FOR THE FOES
• Kieran Barrientos kicked a 37-yard field goal in the second quarter for Hamline.
• Zayden Stevens completed 12-of-22 passes for 123 yards.
• Dominic Sandoval had 13 tackles (seven solo) for the Pipers.
