Bati wins regional, earns national trip for 3rd time

COLFAX, Wis. – Mohammed Bati (SR, Dodola,Ethiopia/GAP School) qualified for his third NCAA Division III men's cross country national championships, winning the Division III North Regional for the second time in his career on Saturday at the Whitetail Golf Course.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Bati finished the 214-runner, 8,000-meter race in a season-best 24:23.7, winning the regional crown by 5.7 seconds over second-place Grant Matthai of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Bati's victory, the 19th of his collegiate career, marked his 19th sub-25-minute time in his 24 career 8,000-meter races.
• By winning the regional title, Bati has qualified to compete at next Saturday's (11/22) NCAA Division III National Championships, which will be held at the Roger Millikin Center in Spartanburg, S.C. Bati is the first Augsburg men's cross country runner to qualify for three national meets, and it will be the seventh time an Auggie men's runner has reached the national meet. Brent Haglund qualified for two national meets (2008, 2009), Micheale Tesema competed at the national meet in 2012, and Dan Spies competed at the 1996 national meet. 
• Bati finished in second place in last year's national championships, and 168th in the 2022 national meet.
Henry Nelson (SR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) finished in 145th place with a season-best 28:17.4, and Tyler Anderson (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) finished in 31:10.5.
• Aaron Sanchez Salazar (FY, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) recorded a personal-best 32:34.1 time, Paul Yang (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Washington Tech Magnet HS) finished in a season-best 33:47.2, finished in 33:59.5, and Tanner Rouillard-Horne (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Harding HS) finished in a personal-best 35:51.6.
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Alwena Brix (SO, Plouay, France/Lycee Jean Mace, Rennes) led four Auggie women competing in the 6,000-meter women's race with a 26:43.4 time, finishing 168th in the 207-runner women's race.
Emma Ryan (FY, St. Joseph, Minn./Rocori HS) finished in 32:24.8, Davi Worman (JR, Edina, Minn./Groves Academy) finished in 32:47.3, and Nathalie Hain (SO, Pfaffenhofen, Germany/Schyren-Gymnasium Pfaffenhofen) finished in 36:55.5.
