Auggies clinch MIAC volleyball playoff berth

MINNEAPOLIS – On the final night of the regular season, the Augsburg University volleyball team clinched a berth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs, sweeping Saint Mary's University in three sets on Saturday evening at Si Melby Hall.

RECORDS: Augsburg 11-18 overall (5-6 MIAC), Saint Mary's 11-16 overall (4-7 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies hit .271 on the night, with 37 kills against 11 errors in 96 attack attempts, while Saint Mary's hit .102. The Auggies also claimed a season-high 14 service aces -- nine in the first set alone.
Taliah Triggs (SO, Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) paced a balanced Augsburg attack with 12 kills on .375 hitting, tying a season-high with four service aces.
Taylor Hoehns (SR, Cedar Falls, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford HS), one of two Auggie seniors playing their final collegiate matches at Si Melby Hall, collected seven kills on .231 hitting, adding two block assists. Senior Sierra Washington (SR, Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had three kills and three block assists.
• Marley Mitchell (SO, Nevis, Minn./Nevis HS) and Elizabeth Oster (JR, Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) had six kills each, with Oster adding three block assists.
Jovial King (SO, Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) had 30 assists, three kills, four block assists and a service ace.
Maggie Lile (JR, Spring Grove, Minn./Spring Grove HS) had eight digs and four service aces, and Lola Pilon (JR, Farmington, Minn./Mounds Park Academy HS) had six digs and three service aces.

FOR THE FOES
• Brenna Bruchert had 11 kills to lead Saint Mary's,.
• Kali Olson had nine kills, three service aces and two block assists.

UP NEXT
• As the No. 6 seed in the MIAC playoffs, Augsburg will return to action on Tuesday (11/11) at 7 p.m., with a quarterfinal match at the No. 3-seed College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.
