Strong shooting lifts Gusties to win at Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outshooting the hosts by a 53.6-percent-to-39.3-percent margin, the Gustavus Adolphus College men's basketball team claimed an 88-68 victory over Augsburg University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Gustavus used a 10-0 run to take an 18-8 advantage with 10:41 left in the first half, and though Augsburg was able to cut the advantage to one point, 22-21 with 6:48 left in the half, the Gusties would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way, eventually leading by as many as 25 points in the second half.
• Augsburg connected on 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the field in the game, compared to 53.6 percent (37-of-69) for the Gusties. The Gusties outrebounded the Auggies by a 39-35 margin, and had 62 points in the paint to Augsburg's 30.
• Will Blascziek (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) led the way for the Auggies, scoring 16 points, including three 3-pointers. 
• Elias Batala (SO, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored 12 points with five rebounds, and Trent Gomez (SO, Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) scored 10 points with three steals, three rebounds and two assists.
• Andy Stafford (SR, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) scored seven points with six rebounds, and Ali Axmed (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) scored eight points with three rebounds.

FOR THE FOES
• Myles Barnette scored 19 points with six assists off the bench to lead Gustavus.
• Wyatt Olson scored 14 points with six rebounds, and Jake Schmitt and Adam Biewen scored 13 points each.
