Auggie lacrosse falls to Titans

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outshot by a 43-10 margin, the Augsburg University women's lacrosse team fell 21-3 to Iowa Wesleyan University in a nonconference contest on Saturday morning at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Illinois Wesleyan scored 11 of the first 12 goals of the game, taking a 13-2 lead at halftime. The Titans outshot the Auggies by a 22-4 margin in the first half and a 21-6 margin in the second half. Illinois Wesleyan held a 20-8 advantage in draw controls and forced 25 Augsburg turnovers while committing 14.
Isabella Kohout (JR, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) scored in the first quarter, Veronica Lopez Nash (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) scored in the second quarter, and Alyssa Paul (SO, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) scored in the fourth quarter for the Auggies.  Lopez Nash added an assist for a two-point day.
• Paul had five caused turnovers, two draw controls and two ground balls for the Auggies. Kohout added two ground balls.
Leila Klym (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had two ground balls and three draw controls.
Jessica Paul (JR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) contributed two draw controls.
• Eleanor Flynn (SO, Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) contributed two ground balls and a caused turnover, and Abaigeal Luallen (JR, Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola HS) contributed two caused turnovers and a draw control.
• Emma Meythaler (SR, Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins HS) had 12 saves in goal, along with one ground ball.

FOR THE FOES
• Sadie Newton scored six goals with two assists for Illinois Wesleyan, adding eight draw controls.
• Avery Setzler scored four goas with five assists, to go along with nine draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg opens Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Saturday (3/29) at 1 p.m., hosting Wisconsin-River Falls at Edor Nelson Field.
