Augsburg softball powers past Martin Luther

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University softball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 19-hit performance in a pair of nonconference run-rule victories over Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon, winning 9-1 and 10-0.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg used a five-run fourth inning, sending nine batters to the plate, to blow open the first game, adding two runs in the fifth following a fielding error to end the game via the NCAA eight-run rule. The key hit in the fourth inning was a three-run homer to right field by Torrie Rehder (SR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS), her fourth career home run. Zoie Johnson (SR, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) and Jaime Olson (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had run-scoring singles in the fourth inning.
Olivia Funk (SR, Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) hit her third home run as an Auggie, a two-run shot to right field in the first inning.
Morgann Paaske (SR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) needed just 57 pitches to record her third victory of the season, striking out six against no walks and just one hit. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring twice. 
• Johnson also went 2-for-3 in the first game for the Auggies.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg used an eight-run third inning, sending 12 batters to the plate, to dominate the second game, which also ended after five innings. Rehder hit her second home run of the day, a solo shot, to lead off the frame, and after Paaske hit a run-scoring double, Grace Syson (SR, Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes Academy HS) hit a three-run homer to right -- her first collegiate round-tripper. Lola Pilon (SO, Farmington, Minn./Mounds Park Academy HS) and Maddalyn Deal (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) each hit RBI singles, and Rehder hit an RBI double in her second at-bat of the inning.
• Paaske and Pilon had back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning.
Zoe Adkins (JR, Homer, Alaska/Homer HS) gained her first victory in the pitching circle as an Auggie, with three strikeouts against one walks and four hits, throwing 67 pitches.

FOR THE FOES
• Jessice Horn pitched 8.2 of Martin Luther's 9.1 innings in the doubleheader.

• Augsburg hosts North Central University (Minn.) in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday (3/11) at 4 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
