MINNEAPOLIS — Augsburg University is announcing the appointment of
Christa Burgess as Senior Associate Athletic Director, effective immediately. Burgess brings more than eight years of leadership experience athletic administration and a proven track record of program growth, compliance excellence, and student‑athlete development.
Most recently, Burgess served as Athletic Director at Trinity Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she led a multi‑sport women's program and advanced competitive performance, recruiting, and community partnerships. Her tenure there showcased her strengths in staff development, policy implementation, and fostering an inclusive culture.
At Augsburg, Burgess will oversee compliance, human resources, game‑day operations, and Title IX and gender‑equity initiatives for the Auggies' 22‑sport intercollegiate athletic department. She will also serve as a strategic advisor on department policy and innovation, ensuring that Augsburg continues to elevate both its competitive standing and its commitment to holistic student‑athlete success.
"I'm honored to join the team here at Augsburg and excited to help lead this awesome department," Burgess said. "I'm looking forward to working under the leadership of our Athletic Director,
Amy Cooper, and I couldn't be more thrilled to get to know all the coaches, players and staff members."

A 2013 graduate of Trinity Washington University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, Burgess earned her Master of Science degree in Elementary Education from Grand Canyon University in 2017. Earlier in her career, she taught health and physical education and directed athletics at JC Nalle Elementary School, and coordinated summer sports programs for the National Center for Children and Families in Washington, D.C.
"We are delighted to welcome

Amy Cooper. "Christa brings significant leadership experience, a proven ability to elevate programs -- reinstating teams, boosting student‑athlete engagement, and securing impactful partnerships -- and a deep commitment to equity and compliance. Her strategic vision and passion for holistic student‑athlete development align seamlessly with Augsburg's mission to educate students for lives of leadership, service, and justice, and will be invaluable as we continue to grow and strengthen Augsburg Athletics."
