Bennies claim 4-0 win over Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS — The Augsburg University women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference defeat by the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday at Edor Nelson Field. The Auggies were held to three shots, one on goal, while facing 24 shots and getting eight saves in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Auggies fell behind at 26:04, when Elly Prairie scored for Saint Benedict off assists from Allison Cammerrer and Avery Soli. Earlier, Claire Smothers made a save in the fourth minute as the Auggies absorbed Saint Ben's pressure, and the Auggies' attacking response included Anya Mothes' shot on goal at 36:14. Smothers added another save in the final minute, and the Auggies went to halftime down 1-0.

The Auggies played much of the second half down a player after Smothers received a red card at 49:25, and Saint Benedict eventually added three goals in the half. Lauren Korioth made six saves after the break, including three during a 10-minute stretch after the card, while Megan Collins hit the top woodwork in the 62nd minute. The Bennies scored in the 69th, 80th and 88th minutes.

Korioth recorded six saves in 40:35 in goal, with all six coming in the second half. Collins led the Auggies with two shots. Anya Mothes put her lone shot on goal.
