Auggie softball splits games in dome

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University softball team faced a mixed day at Edor Nelson Field in its first day of the Auggie Dome Games on Friday, securing a thrilling 6-5 victory against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls before falling to Crown College 12-2 in five innings.

UW-RIVER FALLS GAME RECAP
In the first game against UW-River Falls, Augsburg overcame an early deficit to claim victory with a seventh-inning run. Zoe Adkins pitched a complete game, going 7 innings while allowing 5 runs, 4 of which were earned, on 8 hits. Adkins struck out 6 batters and walked 7, throwing 126 pitches with 64 strikes recorded. 

Lola Pilon was instrumental in the game, scoring two runs and recording a double, while Jaime Olson contributed two hits, including one that brought in a run, and also stole a base. Mckenna Haug drove in two runs with a double, providing key support for the team's offensive efforts.

The Falcons took control in the second inning, capitalizing on a throwing error and a wild pitch to score three runs, establishing a 4–3 lead. However, Augsburg responded in the fourth with aggressive base running, reclaiming the lead at 5–4. Pilon's important double in the seventh set up Aleia Johnston's RBI single, which proved crucial as the Falcons managed a late run, but Augsburg held on for the win.

CROWN GAME RECAP
In the second game against Crown, Augsburg struggled, managing only two runs while Crown dominated with 12 runs on 10 hits, including three doubles and one home run, winning the game via the NCAA eight-run rule. Brooke Laier pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing 11 earned runs on 10 hits, including one home run, while striking out one batter. Nikolina Opp made a brief relief appearance, retiring the only batter faced.

Lola Pilon made a notable contribution by hitting a two-run home run in the third inning, driving in Teron Ormond-Miller. The homer was Pilon's second of the season and 10th of her college career. Ormond-Miller also recorded one hit and scored a run, while Aleia Johnston set the stage for potential scoring opportunities with a leadoff hit. Unfortunately, Augsburg could not sustain their momentum after the home run, managing just one hit in the following innings.
