Webby resigns as Augsburg women's soccer coach

Clara WebbyMINNEAPOLIS -- Clara Webby has announced her resignation after spending three seasons as head coach of the Augsburg University women's soccer program, producing a 29-17-10 record. Webby is departing Augsburg as a result of a family job opportunity in the Chicago, Ill., area.
 
"Leading the women's soccer program has been the highlight of my professional life thus far," Webby said. "Thank you to Jeff Swenson and Amy Cooper for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I'm incredibly thankful to have worked with such dedicated student-athletes and colleagues. I'm so proud of what this team has built, and I have no doubt that the program will continue to thrive moving forward."
 
The seventh head coach in Augsburg women's soccer history, Webby's Auggies earned berths in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs in each of her three seasons, reaching the conference semifinals twice. The Auggies had a 14-9-9 record in conference play during her coaching tenure.

"We are appreciative of the foundation she helped build, grateful for her service to Augsburg, and wish Clara and her family continued success in this next opportunity."
 
Auggie players earned four All-MIAC and three All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors under Webby, with forward Jayla Ponce earning United Soccer Coaches All-Region honors three times. Academically, the Auggies earned 43 Academic All-MIAC honorees, 18 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees and one CSC Academic All-American honor during the past three seasons.
 
Webby came to Augsburg in 2023 after spending three seasons (2019-21, 2022-23) as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Macalester College. She spent the 2021-22 season as the top assistant at MIAC regular-season and playoff titlist St. Catherine University.
 
A native of San Francisco, Calif., Webby was a two-time All-MIAC and two-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region honoree as a central defender at Macalester.
 
Webby will conclude her Auggie tenure on June 1. A national search will be held to hire her replacement.
