GAME RECAP
The game commenced with UW-Stevens Point gaining an early advantage as Marissa Van Dyke scored the first goal at 12:04, setting the pace for the quarter. Auggie goalie
Nicole Schuster made several key saves, including stopping shots from Van Dyke and Katie Wigen. Despite efforts by
Breya Sawyer and
Leila Klym to break through, their shots were saved by Pointer goalie Lily Blanchard. Sawyer managed to secure four draw controls and a ground ball, contributing to the team's efforts. The Pointers capitalized on these opportunities, building a 6-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Augsburg encountered a challenging second quarter as UW-Stevens Point initiated a strong offensive surge, scoring six consecutive goals to extend their lead. Klym of the Auggies managed to secure a draw control and eventually found the back of the net at 3:02, putting her team on the scoreboard. Despite this effort, the Pointers maintained momentum throughout the quarter, closing it with a 13-1 lead.
Klym initiated the third quarter with a strong play, gaining control at the draw and quickly converting it into a goal for the Auggies at 14:48. Despite UW-Stevens Point responding with a goal by Aubrey Keeping, Augsburg's defense, led by Schuster's saves and
Dulce Sanchez causing turnovers — with Sanchez contributing two ground balls and two caused turnovers — kept the pressure on their opponent.
Isabella Kohout added a goal from a free-position shot at 9:21, momentarily boosting Augsburg's momentum. The Pointers, however, capitalized on player-up opportunities later in the quarter, with Keeping scoring twice to extend their lead. Augsburg called a timeout at 1:36 to regroup but was unable to change the outcome in the final minutes.
The Auggies made a strong push in the fourth quarter with a notable player-up goal by
Astrid Clem at 6:42, after securing the draw control thanks to Sawyer. Earlier, Klym had successfully converted a free-position shot at 10:42, briefly closing the gap. Despite these efforts, Augsburg faced defensive challenges, as UW-Stevens Point maintained its momentum with multiple goals, including a player-down goal by Rowan Dunn and a late score by Zoe Schuhmacher.
Emma Ryan also bolstered the Auggies' defense with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
