MEN'S SENIOR HONOR ATHLETE
The Honor Athlete Award is the highest honor given to senior student-athletes at Augsburg. To be considered, student-athletes must be senior standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, and have shown great achievement in athletics.
Kevin Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn./Concordia Academy HS), Men's Track and Field (3.62 GPA) -- Competing in outdoor track this season (sprints/jumps) … Broke 20-year school record in outdoor triple jump (14.05 meters/46-feet, 1.25-inches), achieved record at 2007 MIAC outdoor championships in finishing 3rd to earn All-MIAC honors … Finished 6th in triple jump at 2007 MIAC indoor meet (13.01 meters/42-feet, 8.25-inches) to earn All-MIAC honorable-mention honors … Finished 6th in triple jump at 2006 MIAC outdoor meet for All-MIAC honorable-mention honors … All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team in 2007 outdoor season … Academic All-MIAC in 2006 and 2007.

Jordan Berg (JR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS), Football -- All-MIAC second-team, Academic All-MIAC … Broke every single-season school passing record in 2007, with 292 passes, 502 attempts, 3,444 yards and 34 touchdowns … Yardage total is 2nd-most among any MIAC quarterback in history, TD total is 4th-most in MIAC history … Among D-III players nationally, ranked 3rd in total offense per-game (339.0 ypg), 4th in passing yardage per-game (344.4 ypg) and 5th in total passing yards (3,444) … Among all college football players (NCAA all-divisions and NAIA), ranked 11th in passing yardage per-game, 34th in total passing yardage and 13th in total offense yards per-game … Set Augsburg career record for passing TDs (47) and currently ranks 2nd in all other career passing categories (499 passes, 851 attempts, 5,551 yards).

Seth Flodeen (JR, Cannon Falls, Minn.), Wrestling -- NCAA Division III national champion (125 pounds), Great Lakes Regional runner-up (125) … Claimed 43rd national title in Augsburg history with dramatic 2:07 pin in national championship match, the only pin in the 10 national title matches … Rallied from No. 5 seed with four victories in national tournament, including a 14-0, major-decision win in opening match and three wins over higher-seeded wrestlers … Finished 25-7 on season with 11 pins and 2 technical falls, reaching national title match for 2nd straight year (78-27 career) … Won titles at MSU Moorhead Dragon Open and St. John’s North Country Open, placed second at St. Cloud State Husky Open and Great Lakes Regional, placed third at Northwestern (Iowa) Red Raider/Paul Bartlett Invitational.
Royce Winford (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS), Football -- All-MIAC first-team, D3Football.com All-West Region first-team, D3Football.com All-America second team … Set single-season school record with 16 receiving TDs and became 1st Auggie receiver since 1998 to record a 1,000-yard receiving season … Finished with 101 receptions for 1,403 yards, both totals second-best in single-season in school history … Among D-III players nationally, ranked 2nd in receptions per-game (10.1), 3rd in receiving yards per-game (140.3) and 3rd in total receiving yards (1,403) … ranked 6th among all college football players (NCAA all-divisions and NAIA) in receptions per-game, 5th in receiving yards per-game and 8th in total receiving yardage … Single-game Augsburg and MIAC-record 20 receptions against Carleton was most in a single game among all college football players (regardless of division) nationally this season.

Maggie DeGroot (JR, Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS), Women's Soccer -- All-MIAC first-team … 9-6-3 record as goalkeeper, playing in 18 of 19 games ... Led MIAC with .878 save percentage (108 saves) and had 3rd-best goals-against-average (0.84) in MIAC play … also 8 shutouts (4th-most in single-season in school history) … Claimed 10-plus saves 4 times, including 10 saves in 1-0 win over Macalester, breaking a 12-game winless streak to the Scots … Tied Beth Petrik (1995-98) for school’s career shutout record with 26 … Career 0.71 GAA is best in school history, 27 wins is 3rd-best in school history … All-MIAC honorable-mention in 2005 and 2006.

Muneer Al-Hameed (FY, Woodbury, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn HS), Football -- As wide receiver, ranked 3rd on team in receiving, with 48 catches for 678 yards and 5 TDs (14.1 yards per-catch, 67.8 yards per-game) … Also recorded 3 kickoff returns for 34 yards (11.3 average) … Recorded two 100-yard receiving games -- 107 yards on 5 catches at St. John’s and 176 yards on 11 catches against Gustavus … Season-long 74-yard TD reception against St. John’s (longest reception by any Auggie receiver this season).
Beau Hansen (FY, Albert Lea, Minn.), Wrestling -- NCAA National Tournament qualifier (157 pounds), Great Lakes Regional runner-up … Finished with 28-9 record with 7 pins, 1 technical fall and 5 major decisions on season … Battled for varsity spot at 157 early, went 3-1 at NWCA Division III National Duals, including a 6-3 win over No. 9-ranked Jay Milz of Wisconsin-La Crosse, to clinch varsity spot … Went 3-1 at Great Lakes Regional to clinch first-ever national tournament berth.
Craig Henry (FY/SO, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS), 2007 Baseball -- All-MIAC first-team … 1 of only 2 first-year students to be named to 27-member All-MIAC first-team in 2007 … Led team in hitting with .395 (45-of-114) average, ranking 8th among MIAC players in overall stats … Also 8th among MIAC players in league-games-only batting average (.403) … Also led team with 17 RBI, 15 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and .614 slugging percentage … 25 runs scored was 2nd-most on team … .960 fielding percentage (7 errors in 177 chances), and threw out 12 baserunners trying to steal (3rd-most among MIAC catchers) … Team-high 15 multiple-hit games and 4 multiple-RBI games … Closed season on 8-game hitting streak … Started 35 of team’s 37 games at catcher.
Jim Jensen (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS), Men's Hockey -- All-MIAC honorable-mention, MIAC All-Rookie Team … Scored team-high 11 goals, adding 11 assists for 22 points … Also team-high 5 power-play goals … Ranked 3rd in total scoring and goals by MIAC rookies in overall play and 4th in rookie scoring in MIAC games-only … Ranked 16th among MIAC players in overall scoring, 16th in MIAC games-only (7 goals) … Had team-high 7-game point streak to close season (4 goals, 6 assists, 10 points) … Had goal or assist in 15 games this season.
WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Johanna Frykmark (FY, Stockholm, Sweden/Rollingby Gymnasium HS), Women's Golf -- All-MIAC … Became just second Augsburg women’s golfer to ever earn All-MIAC honors (Andrea Sievert was the first in 1998) with 10th-place finish (88-81-84—253) at MIAC championships, best Auggie finish in a 54-hole event in school history … Led team with 89.56 stroke average in fall half of 2007-08 season (806 strokes, nine rounds) … Recorded 6 of Augsburg’s 9 rounds in the 80s during fall half of season, including season-best 81 in second round of MIAC tournament … Native of Stockholm, Sweden in first year of college golf.
Whitney Holman (FY/SO, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS), 2007 Women's Track and Field -- All-MIAC honorable-mention in 2 events in 2007 indoor track … In 2007 track, earned 2 All-MIAC honorable-mention honors with 4th place in 55-meter dash (7.54 seconds) and 5th place in 200-meter dash (26.90 seconds) at indoor championships … Placed 7th in finals of MIAC outdoor 100-meter dash (13.12 seconds).
Jenny Lovering (FY, Bemidji, Minn.), Women's Cross Country/Women's Track and Field -- In cross country, was Augsburg’s No. 1 runner, improving her personal-best time in all 5 of her 6,000-meter events this season, improving her time by a 1:56 margin from her first 6K event to her last … Finished 34th at MIAC championships with 23:58.70 time, then 50th at NCAA Division III Central Regional with 23:50 time … Had season-best placing with 16th-place finish at St. Olaf Pre-Nationals Invitational on Oct. 6 … In indoor track and field, competed in middle-distance events, finishing 7th in MIAC indoor championships in mile run (5:25.68) and 10th in 1,000-meter run (3:07.37), both team-bests … also team-best 2:27.31 in 800-meter run.
Shannon Renne (FY, Nicollet, Minn.), Women's Basketball -- MIAC All-First-Year Team … Started 22 of 25 games this season … averaged 10.5 points per-game, finishing 3rd on team in scoring, adding 3.2 rebounds per-game and 1.8 assists per-game … Scoring total was 3rd-best among MIAC first-year players in overall statistics and 22nd overall … 41 3-pointers this season was 7th-most among MIAC players and 7th-best in a single-season in Augsburg history … In MIAC games-only stats, ranked 26th in scoring (10.0 ppg) and ninth in 3-pointers made (35) … Had 16 double-figure scoring games, including season-high 24 points in 75-69 win over St. Olaf on Feb. 4.
MEN'S OUTSTANDING TEAM
2007 Baseball (18-19 overall, 10-10 MIAC--t5th/11) -- Under fourth-year coach Keith Bateman, Augsburg finished 18-19 overall, 10-10 in MIAC play in 2007, finishing in a tie for fifth place in the league standings. Bateman, now 76-79-1 overall, has recorded double-digit win seasons in each of his four seasons at Augsburg. The Auggies claimed doubleheader splits against conference regular-season co-champions St. Thomas and St. Olaf, while sweeping MIAC postseason playoff participant St. John’s in a late-season series.
Men's Basketball (12-13 overall, 10-10 MIAC--7th/11) -- Under third-year head coach Aaron Griess, Augsburg finished 12-13 overall, 10-10 in MIAC play in the 2007-08 season. After starting the season 0-6, Augsburg won 12 of its final 19 games, including seven of its last nine, to finish the season with its second-straight double-digit win campaign and best record since finishing 12-13 in the 2000-01 season -- its last trip to the MIAC's postseason tournament. Augsburg came within a game of qualifying for the conference tournament, but lost on a last-second shot at Bethel in the final game of the regular season.
Football (5-5 overall, 3-5 MIAC--t5th/9) -- The Auggie football team, under third-year head coach Frank Haege, finished 5-5 overall, 3-5 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, marking the first time Augsburg had reached the .500 mark since 2003 (5-5 overall, 4-4 MIAC). With its five victories in 2007, Augsburg also eclipsed its number of wins from the previous three seasons combined (4-26). Along the way, the Auggies claimed several huge victories, including a 14-13 triumph at No. 10-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) on Oct. 6, and a 44-38 win over Gustavus on Oct. 27, breaking a nine-game losing streak to the Gusties.
Wrestling (10-2-0 in dual meets, 3rd at NCAA Division III National Championships, 3rd at NWCA Division III National Duals, 1st at NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional) -- Claiming a top-four finish in the team standings for the 20th straight year -- a record currently unmatched by any other NCAA wrestling program in any division -- the Augsburg wrestling team finished third at the NCAA Division III National Championships, held March 7-8 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Augsburg claimed five All-Americans, marking the 20th straight season that Augsburg has had five or more All-Americans and 22nd time it has accomplished the feat in its 26 seasons of NCAA Division III competition. The Auggies completed their first season under new head coach Sam Barber. Augsburg finished 10-2 in dual meets, placed third at the NWCA Division III National Duals, and won the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional for the sixth straight year.
WOMEN'S OUTSTANDING TEAM
Women's Soccer (9-7-3 overall, 7-3-1 MIAC--t3rd/12, MIAC playoff qualifier) -- The Augsburg women's soccer team, under ninth-year head coach Mike Navarre, finished 9-7-3 overall, 7-3-1 in MIAC play, earning a spot in the four-team MIAC postseason playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. The Auggies tied the 2004 squad (10-8-0 overall, 7-4-0 MIAC) for its best-ever league placing, and their 15 league points tied the 2006 campaign for the most conference points in program history. The Auggies fell to St. Benedict in the conference semifinal match. The Auggies claimed several key wins during the season, including a 1-0 triumph over Macalester on Oct. 3, breaking a 12-game winless streak to the Scots.
Volleyball (13-16 overall, 4-7 MIAC--9th/12) -- The Augsburg volleyball team, under third-year head coach Jessica Rinehart, finished 13-16 overall, 4-7 in MIAC play. Augsburg finished its season with its best record in both overall and MIAC play since the 1998 campaign (17-11 overall, 6-5 MIAC). The Auggies won four of their last five matches to close the season, including a win in five games over NCAA Division III national tournament team Bethel on Oct. 20.
MEN'S MOST IMPROVED TEAM

Women's Basketball (7-18 overall, 5-17 MIAC--11th/12 in 2007-08; 1-24 overall, 1-21 MIAC--12th/12 in 2006-07) -- Under fourth-year head coach Jennifer Britz, Augsburg finished 7-18 overall, 5-17 in MIAC play in the 2007-08 season. Augsburg reached the seven-win mark for the second time in the last three seasons. Augsburg opened the season with a 4-2 mark, its best start to a season since the 1984-85 campaign.
Women's Golf (8th/9 at MIAC championships in 2007-08; 9th/9 at MIAC meet, Incomplete team finish at MWCGA spring state meet in 2006-07) -- With no seniors and three first-year athletes on the roster, the Augsburg women's golf team was a young one, but one of its athletes made program history. Johanna Frykmark (FY, Stockholm, Sweden/Rollingby Gymnasium HS) became just the second Augsburg women's golfer to ever earn all-conference honors, finishing in a tie for 10th place overall at the conference meet in early October. As a team, the Auggie women moved up a place to eighth in the conference meet under head coach Laura Patrick, marking the end of the fall half of the fall-spring collegiate golf season.
Volleyball (13-16 overall, 4-7 MIAC--9th/12 in 2007; 11-17 overall, 2-9 MIAC--t11th/12 in 2006) -- The Augsburg volleyball team, under third-year head coach Jessica Rinehart, finished 13-16 overall, 4-7 in MIAC play. Augsburg finished its season with its best record in both overall and MIAC play since the 1998 campaign (17-11 overall, 6-5 MIAC). The Auggies won four of their last five matches to close the season, including a win in five games over NCAA Division III national tournament team Bethel on Oct. 20.
